Charlotte, Queen City in North Carolina, USA

Charlotte is the largest city in North Carolina, USA. The city was named after Queen Charlotte, wife of King George III of England. It is also called the Queen City, the city of trees or the city of churches.

Charlotte has a Wooden houses of the African American Cultural Center of the oldest buildings preserved until today. These houses were built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. In the center is an art gallery and an exhibition on the lives of black families a hundred years ago. There is also a statue called Metalmorphosis. It is a giant head, 14 tons and 7.5 m high stainless steel. The mouth spits water and head changes shape. It was designed by Czech artist David Cerny. Several parks, theaters, museums and galleries can be found in Charlotte downtown. A science museum called Discovery Palace has an IMAX theater. The Westin Charlotte of America is the tallest building in Charlotte with 293 feet.
